September 2025 Newsletter

Further updates from Carolside Medical Centre as we move into autumn.

New Consulting Room

Work has finished on our new consulting room with it now being used by healthcare assistants, nurses and GPs, enabled by the clinical chair that can convert into an examination couch. Those patients who have been in the room have expressed their surprise at how much bigger the space is than they had been expecting. Additional space to see patients is very much welcomed. Importantly we wish to reassure patients that the walls have been built using an acoustic insulation and the door has a solid core to aid privacy.

Re-launch of Cardiovascular Chronic Disease Monitoring

We are re-launching our monitoring programme of patients with a diagnosis of at least one of:

  • High blood pressure
  • Heart disease (previous heart attack or angina)
  • Stroke
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Peripheral vascular disease.

We are moving to a ‘birthday month’ recall system to try and streamline the process. We will be in touch with you in the weeks prior to your birthday month to arrange 2 appointments:

  • The first is an appointment for blood tests, weight check and a urine test with the healthcare assistant
  • The second is an appointment with the nurse to review all of the results and your progress.

Whilst we will make every attempt to contact you, if your birthday month passes and you haven’t been recalled, please contact us to arrange your ‘chronic disease review’ appointments.  You can do this via the website www.carolsidemc.co.uk at ‘Request an appointment with our nurse or healthcare assistant.’

Since Covid, the recall system has struggled to catch up with patients, so we are seeing this as a ‘reset’ and appreciate your patience as we get this new process up and running.

Prostate Cancer Fundraising

Our very own Dr Alistair McLennan is taking part in Chris Hoy’s Tour de 4, a challenging 90km hilly cycle to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK. While we understand that there are many worthwhile causes, we felt it important to share our staff’s efforts to help fight cancer. There are links below to his gofund me page however please do not feel obliged to contribute.

Blood Pressure Machine Amnesty

If you still have a blood pressure machine which we have leant you previously to help record your blood pressure and this was not returned, please hand this back to us, so that we can reissue it to another patient. Thank you!

Emergency Alerts System

The UK Government will be testing the Emergency Alerts system on Sunday, 7 September at 3pm. During the test, mobile phones will vibrate and make a loud siren sound for roughly ten seconds, even if they are set to silent. A message will also appear on phone screens, making it clear the alert is only a test. Regular testing ensures the system is functioning correctly, should it need to be used in a life-threatening emergency.

Emergency Alerts Opt Out Information

The Emergency Alerts system is an important tool for reaching the public in emergency situations. However, for those who need it, information on how to opt out (including from the test) is available on gov.uk/alerts.

At this time we have no further updates or timescale on the planned clinical software changes but will of course let you know once we have further information.

Kind regards
